The Most Common FAQ’S Answered About Pool Installations

The Most Common FAQ’S Answered About Pool Installations

You’ve decided to install the pool of your dreams – how exciting! If you’re like most, you’ll have a tonne of questions. To help answer some of them, we’ve compiled a few of the most common ones we get asked about the installation process, and of course, if your questions aren’t answered here, you can talk to your pool builder at any time to ask them. Let’s take a look.

Can I still have a pool if my backyard is sloping or on awkward terrain?

The short answer is, in most instances, yes! Our highly skilled pool builders here at The Fibreglass Pool Company have extensive experience installing swimming pools on all sorts of terrains, including sloping blocks. In fact, there hasn’t been a job to date that has been too tricky for us to install a pool. Our team will come up with the best strategy to install the pool to ensure it not only looks good but is structurally sound and safe.

How long does it take to install a fibreglass pool?

When everything runs like clockwork, one of our fibreglass pools can be installed in as little as 7 days. This timeframe can often be an unrealistic goal though, especially when it’s leading up to the warmer months and its peak pool building season. Delays in permit approvals can occur and, if the weather is not on our side, this can disrupt the schedule too. Realistically, we normally give people a timeframe of around a couple of weeks to complete the build. Keeping in mind that fibreglass pools are much quicker to install than a concrete pool as the shell is delivered to site rather than built from scratch onsite which can take months and more when the factors mentioned above are at play.

My backyard has poor access, does that prevent me from getting a pool?

Sometimes poor access can affect how long it takes to get the ground excavated and the pool in the backyard however, that does not mean you cannot have a pool if this is the case at your place. If access is limited and specialised machinery or transport is needed to install your pool, this will be discussed with you during the initial quoting phase. The Fibreglass Pool Company team will take care of the logistics and will come up with a comprehensive plan to get your new swimming pool in your backyard regardless of what your access is like.

I only have a small space to work with, do you have any options for me?

Some people assume that because they don’t have much room in the backyard they can’t possibly fit in a pool. Well, the good news is we have swimming pools for the most modest of spaces. Backyards continue to get more compact, and this is a trend that is unlikely to change, because of this, our smaller pool collection continues to expand to keep up with demand. More are opting for this type of pool over larger ones due to this factor. So, to answer the question, yes, we have a generous selection available to those with smaller areas to work with. If your backyard is exceptionally small, then perhaps you may not be able to fit a smaller pool, but a spa may still be on the cards.

Can fibreglass pools be installed in other ways other than inground?

For some people, an inground installation isn’t an option due to the layout of their yard, and in this instance, an alternative installation may be appropriate. Our fibreglass shells are designed to be installed in the ground as well as partially above ground or above ground entirely. You may have your heart set on a particular installation, but another way may give you a better result from an aesthetic point of view, especially if your land is sloping. This can all be discussed with you when the builder comes to site to do their quote.

How much does it cost to install a fibreglass pool?

This is one of the most common questions we get asked, and it’s so hard to give a straightforward answer when there are so many variables that can affect the overall price. Some of those include access to the pool site, the type of pool you choose, and the condition of the ground where it’s due to be installed. To give you a very broad idea, you are generally looking at around $25,000 for an entry price pool. The best way to get an accurate quote for what you want and where you live is by organising an onsite quote with one of our pool builders.

Do I need to organise permits to get a pool installed at my place?

You’ll need certain permits and approvals before your pool can be built, but this is not something you have to worry about with us. Our team organise all the paperwork regarding your pool installation on your behalf.

Is it cheaper to get add-ons in my pool during the construction or after?

In most cases, it’s cheaper to get additional features put in during the construction phase rather than after the fact. If you’d like things like lighting or spa jets in your pool, it’s best to discuss this with your pool builder, as installing them later can be tedious and therefore more expensive.

Do I have to have a pool fence?

Yes. In 1991, the Australia Government implemented pool fencing laws to reduce the number of preventable drownings. The rules around this are strict, and they don’t just apply to the fencing alone but also the areas surrounding it, mechanisms, gates and more. Once your pool fencing is built, it will need to be inspected to ensure it is compliant.

When is the best time to install my pool?

We believe anytime is a great time to invest in a swimming pool but there is one season that offers more perks than others, and that is winter. This time of year tends to be the slower time in the industry and as a result, the waiting times to install a pool generally aren’t as long. You also won’t be mid-way through a pool build when the weather starts to warm up, and you want to go swimming.

How far in advance should I book my pool build?

The pool industry has been inundated, and many companies, us included, are booked out for months in advance. With more people on stay-at-home orders with COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions, many people are eager to get a pool installed. To avoid missing out on your preferred date, we suggest booking as soon as you’ve decided to install a pool. This way you can get your pool installed sooner.

We hope this post answers some questions you may have had about installing a fibreglass pool with us here at The Fibreglass Pool Company but remember, if you have any questions along the way, be sure to ask your pool builder, they’ll be more than happy to answer them. If you haven’t already started the pool building process but you’d like to, get in touch, and we’ll organise an onsite quote for you.
